Al Rayyan head coach Jorge Fossati   has been crowned the coach of the year at this evenings QFA awards. The 63 year old coach picked up the award at the QNCC beating nominees Yusef Adam and Sabri Lamouchi to the crown.

The charismatic Uruguayan tactician was hired by Al Rayyan in the summer as the Lions look to finish in the top four places after getting promoted from the Qatar Gas League. Fossati immediately had an impact on the side and lead them to a record breaking winning streak of eleven games, including a 9-0 mauling of Qatar SC.

A 2-1 defeat to bitter rivals Al Sadd in the Qatar Clasico didn’t destabilize Fossati and his side went on to post another nine game winning streak, which culminated in Al Rayyan lifting the title for the first time in 21 years with five rounds to play.

Under Fossati, Al Rayyan has enjoyed a memorable season of free flowing football with plenty of goals. Whilst personally Fossati picked up four player of the month awards over the course of the QSL season, as Al Rayyan swept all before them to lift the falcon shield.

Of course, Fossati is no stranger to managing in Qatar and has enjoyed two separate stints with Al Sadd. Along with tenure as Qatar National team manager, his first stint in Qatar saw him sweep to all four domestic titles in the 2006-2007 season.

A period with the Qatar national team followed for a year. In 2010 Fossati returned to Al Sadd and famously helped them to lift the AFC Champions League title for the first time in their history.
