QSL champions Al Rayyan have confirmed that midfielder Fabio Cesar has retired from club football and is set to be a part of the new management team of Danish coach Michael Laudrup.
The 37-year old had previously been training the side in the absence of a head coach between the departure of Jorge Fossati to the Qatar national team, and the signing of Michael Laudrup who was revealed to the local media earlier on in the week.
The Brazilian born midfielder joined Al Arabi during the 2005-2006 campaign, Cesar then enjoyed two separate stints at both Umm Salal and Al Rayyan where he picked up the Emir Cup & Sheikh Jassim cup along with the Heir Apparent Cup and finally lifting the QSL title with Al Rayyan during the 2015-2016 season. He has also represented Qatar during the 2011 Asian cup, in Doha.
“It’s a huge honor for me to be working with such a prestigious coach in Michael Laudrup, it is a big opportunity for me to learn from him and I hope I can do my best for the team” claimed Cesar on the news of his appointment.
Fabio Cesar will now start to focus with the Al Rayyan coaching staff on the side’s upcoming third round match. The lions are set to take on Al Sailiya on Saturday the 15th of October at Al Ahli stadium.
