Al Sadd and Lekhwiya are set to face each other in the Emir Cup final on Friday the 20th of May. Both sides progress to the final after beating rivals Al Rayyan and El Jaish respectively in two semifinal matches on Friday evening at Al Sadd stadium.

In the early kickoff Al Sadd edged out rivals Al Rayyan 3-2 to secure their place in the final of the Emir Cup. Sadd looked better in every department, and was leading 3-1 at one stage, before a late Rodrigo Tabata penalty settled the score 3-2.

Al Rayyan made a dream start in the tie opening the scoring through Rodrigo Tabata on the eleventh minute. However Sadd came back into the tie from the penalty spot as Bagdad Bounjah was bundled down in the area. Hassan Haydoos stepped up and restored parity in the tie.

Haydos was central in putting his side ahead of Al Rayyan when he added his second goal in the 20th minute of the game. Sadd had the upper hand for the majority of the tie, and ended the tie on the 89th minute with a strong finish from Bagdad Bounjah. Rodrigo Tabata converted a penalty in stoppage time, but it proved too late for Rayyan who lost 3-2 to Sadd.

In the second game of the evening, Lekhwiya progressed to their first ever Emir Cup final with a 2-1 over local rivals El Jaish. The Red Knights came from behind to seal their spot in the showpiece finals with goals from Nam Tae Hee and Mohammed Moussa.

El Jaish took an early lead on the twenty eighth minute from the penalty spot. Mohammad Mothnani was tripped in the area and Abdulrazak Hamdullah stepped up to score the opening goal of the tie.   Lekhwiya fought back and grabbed an equalizer in the final minute of the first half. South Korean midfielder Nam Tae Hee curled in a fine free kick to give Djamel Belmadi a deserved equalizer.

In the second half Lekhwiya began to dominate their local rivals and took the lead on the 79th minute. A well worked corner routine saw Mohammed Moussa head Lekhwiya ahead. A corner was flicked on by Chico Flores and Moussa produced a strong header past Jaish stopper Khalifa Ababacar.

Lekhwiya held out to progress to their first ever Emir Cup final and will be hoping of a strong performance when they face Al Sadd in the May 20th final.
