In the late kick off tonight at the Thani bin Jassim stadium Al Shahania welcomed El Jaish for the round 23 Qatar Stars league fixture.

Although Shahania were looking to stay out of the relegation zone it was always going to be an uphill battle against El Jaish who last season finished in second place in the Qatar Stars league.

Add to that the fact that Wakrah managed to beat Al Sailiya the day before and the pressure was now all on the Oryxes to come good.

All the goals came in the second half as the home side – Shahania made a notable effort, going into the break with the score line goalless.

The breakthrough came when the industrious central midfielder Mohamed Mathnani received a ball from the right courtesy of Wagner Ribeiro in the 57th minute. This goal seemed to visibly knock the confidence of Shahania who up till the goal looked to have found a way to contain the Soldiers.

After that Romarinho added to his tally of goals as he notched up his 14th of the season. The Brazilian was assisted by left wingback Yousef Muftah (63’).

Then just two minutes later El Jaish had the match wrapped up when this time Wagner Ribeiro added the third. This time Romarinho set up his countrymen to put a shine on the result.

Shahania rallied late on and managed to get a consolatory goal through Luciano Vazquez, the forward shooting from just outside of the box.

El Jaish are now on 41 points and back up into third in the Qatar Stars League.
