Experienced heads needed if Muaither can beat the drop
Newly promoted side Muaither has endured a tough opening to life in QSL. Phillipe Birol’s side who gained promotion to the QSL after winning the Qatar Gas League have so far lost both of their opening games against title chasing Lekhwiya and Al Shanania.
The first match of the season gave Muaither a reality check after losing 4-0 to a rampant Lekhwiya. The Stallions looked poor in defense and the former QSL champs scored two goals in either half to secure all three points. More disheartening for Muaither will be the defeat against fellow promoted Al Shahania. A solitary first half goal was enough to grab all three points, despite Muaither dominating possession and chances.
Muaither moved quickly on deadline day to address their attacking weakness by securing the services of former D.R Congo man Alain Dioko on loan from Al Gharafa. Dioko has proven ability at this level and has been the top scorer in the QSL for two seasons in a row between 2013 and 2015 seasons. The veteran attacker has lost his way lately with stints at Lekhwiya and Al Gharafa and Phillipe Birol will be hoping he can find his goal scoring touch.
Phillipe Birol has opted for seasoned veterans in his side to avoid the drop into the Qatar Gas League at the first time of asking. Former Al Arabi midfielder Adel Lamy has been recruited to sure up the side in the center of the park. This is Lamy’s fifth club in the QSL and his experience will be vital if the Stallions are to beat the odds and survive this season.
Sides who are favorites for the drop often need a keeper of real quality to buck the odds. Fortunately for Muaither they recruited Basil Zidan one of the most capable keepers in the QSL. The local player has been at a host of QSL teams and his shot stopping ability will be needed over the season.
Muaither will now start to focus on their upcoming round three fixture when they will take on Al Gharafa on Saturday the 15th of October.
