Undefeated El Jaish looking to continue strong start
El Jaish has started the season with a flourish and is one of only three other sides in the QSL to register two consecutive victories. The soldiers extended AFC Champions league run meant that Sabri Lamouchi’s side started to train for the season earlier than usual and that could be a factor in their positive start for the 2016/2017 QSL season.
Jaish opened up their QSL campaign with a narrow 2-1 win over Al Wakrah, despite enjoy the majority of possession and chances over the Blue Waves, the soldiers had to enjoy a nervy final fifteen before securing all three points.
Their second match of the season saw a seven goal thriller with El Jaish defeating Al Arabi 4-3. Sabri Lamouchi had Brazilian attacker Romariho to thank for saving his side the points. His mazy run and composed finish was enough for his side on the night. The major concern for Lamouchi however will be how El Jaish let a two goal lead slip.
Malian midfielder Seidou Keita was the major signing of note for Jaish over the summer window. The former FC Barcelona man was parachuted into the club following the long term injury to last season’s joint QSL top scorer Abdulrazak Hamdullah. Despite coming towards the end of his career at 36, Keita still has the legs and the quality to pull the strings in midfield for El Jaish. This was highlighted in his impressive performance against Wakrah in the opening game of the season.
Hamza Sanhaji has a point to prove this season with El Jaish and will be eager to build on his early season form. The Al Sadd attacker has been loaned for El Jaish for six months, and has started his Jaish career well notching on his first start for the club in the 4-3 win over Al Arabi. The 22-year old was part of the Qatar U23 squad that finished fourth in the recent AFC championships, and will be targeting more starts with El Jaish to broaden his experience.
Despite losing Hamdullah to a long term knee injury, Jaish are still scoring goals with six strikes in just two QSL games. Central to this has been the move to Romarinho to a more central role. The mercurial Brazilian recently signed a three year contract with the side and has been key in Jaish’s recent attacking prowess.
El Jaish will now be aiming to build on their unbeaten start in the QSL by resuming preparations for the third round of QSL action on Friday the 14th of October with a home clash against Al Khor.
