Defensive concentration needed from the Blue Waves.

Al Wakrah has started the 2016/2017 QSL season with two narrow defeats to El Jaish and Al Kharaitiyat. The opening tie of the season saw Mauricio Larriera’s side battle back to push title favorites El Jaish all the way, before losing 2-1. Whilst in the second match Wakrah struck a late consolation to be defeated to relegation rivals Kharaitiyat.

Summer signings Pablo Zebalos and Pablo Olivera has found their feet quickly in the QSL, notching their debut goals within the first two matches in the season. After selling last season’s top scorer in Sasha Wakrah moved quickly to fill the gap. Early indications look good for the duo that will need to strike up a partnership on the pitch if Wakrah are to beat the drop.

Youngster Ahmed Fadhel could be set for a big season at Wakrah this season. The Qatar Youth international has so far made two substitute appearances so far, and added real attacking intent to his team, especially in the defeat to El Jaish. Fadhel will now be looking to force his way into the side and aid Wakrah in pulling away from the relegation zone.

Defensive lapses early in the game seemed to have been the downfall of Mauricio Larriera’s side in the first two matches of the season. That’s why the return of Iraqi veteran defender Ali Rehema will be a major boost for Wakrah going into the third round of the QSL. Rehema has been with the club since 2008 and his experience will be vital to the Wakrah cause.

Al Wakrah will now continue training ahead of the third round of QSL action. The Blue Waves are set for a tricky away clash against Al Ahli on Saturday the 15th of October.
