Al Sadd lay down marker in first two QSL games
Al Sadd has enjoyed a strong start to the QSL season, posting two victories and scoring six goals from the opening encounters of the season. Head coach Jesualdo Ferreira enjoyed his first full preseason with the side and the squad have certainly adapted well to his training methods.
The Wolves opened up their campaign with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Al Kharaitiyat, three second half goals including a fine individual effort from Ali Asad gave Sadd all three points. Whilst in the second tie Sadd beat Al Ahli 2-1 with goals from Hassan Haydoos and Bagdad Bounjah.
Al Sadd made only one signing of note in the summer transfer window, with Algerian winger Jugurtha Hamroun joining the side on an initial season long loan deal from Steaua București. The 27-year-old has settled quickly with the side and has struck up a relationship with compatriot Bagdad Bounjah. Hamroun’s fitness levels have been impressive, and his running will be very much needed if the Wolves are to push on and lift their first QSL title since the 2012-2013 campaign.
After being handed the number 7 shirt young defender Musab Kheder is set for a starring role for Al Sadd this season. The right back, which was a part of the Qatar national team that finished fourth in the AFC U23 Championships is going into his second season with the side and will be looking to make a big impact. Al Sadd has traditionally blooded plenty of young talent in the QSL, and the Wolves will have to do the same again in the hunt for domestic glory.
It’s been in attack where Al Sadd has looked their most impressive in the first two games of the season. Both Hassan Haydoos and Bagdad Bounjah have two goals apiece. With the craft of legendary midfielder Xavi the Wolves shouldn’t be lacking in creating goal scoring chances.
However the season is young and Al Sadd should be expecting tougher tests ahead of the season, which will start in the third round on Sunday the 16th of October with their top of the table clash with Lekhwiya.
