More goals needed if Khor are to avoid the drop
Two rounds into the QSL season and Al Khor have so far registered one defeat against Umm Salal and one victory over Al Sailiya. Having stated that his sides aim was to avoid relegation, head coach Jean Fernandez can draw plenty of positives from the opening two games of the season.
Al Khor opened up their campaign with a narrow 2-1 victory over Umm Salal. The Knights grabbed an equalizer though summer signing Mouchine Iajour, before conceding a second half winner to Ismael Mohammed. Despite the loss, head coach Jean Fernandez will be happy by the effort of his side, who pushed last season’s form side all the way to the final whistle.
Luck was on Al Khor’s side in the second match of the season, as they notched their first three points of the season. Brazilian striker Madson, so often Khor’s savior over the years scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot. However the tie could have been completely different for Jean Fernandez side had Khor stopper Papa Djibril not saved Faouzi Aaish’s penalty later in the tie.
Last season Al Khor relied heavily on the goal scoring talents of Madson, and the club has attempted to address this issue by the signing of Mouchine Iajour. The Moroccan attacker is no stranger to the QSL, having previously enjoyed stints at Qatar SC & Al Ahli. So far Iajour has seemed to have settled at Al Khor notching his first goal of the season against Umm Salal. Head coach Jean Fernandez will be hoping for at least double figures from the Moroccan international.
At 24 years old, summer signing Sultan Al Enezi has youth on his side. The defender, picked up from Al Qadsia has put in two strong performances at the heart of the Khor defense. Al Enezi has plenty of experience especially for a player so young, with 19 caps for the Kuwait national side. Al Khor will be looking for more of the same from Al Enezi over the season.
Brazilian attacker Madson is heading into his fifth season with the Knights and his goal getting will be needed if Khor are to avoid relegation for yet another season. Madson was last season’s top scorer with just nine goals and will have to grab even more if Khor are to beat the drop, especially with four teams relegated to the Qatar Gas League this season.
Al Khor will be hoping to maintain their winning form in a tough away assignment against El Jaish on Friday the 14th of October at Lekhwiya stadium.
