New signings looking to gel quickly for Al Arabi

After a hectic summer transfer window, Al Arabi have settled into the new QSL season relatively well, registering an opening day victory over Al Sailiya and a second round defeat to a strong Al Arabi side. The Dream Team will be looking to build on this under the guidance of new head coach Gerardo Pelusso.

Al Arabi grabbed a narrow 1-0 victory over Al Sailiya in the opening game of the QSL season, thanks to a second half Yusef Ahmed strike. The Dream team where without any professional players for the tie due to injuries and registration issues, making the win all the more impressive.

Whilst in the second tie against El Jaish, Al Arabi showed plenty of character to battle back into the tie from two goals down, taking a 3-2 lead with fifteen minutes to go. However Gerardo Pelusso’s side surrendered all three points in stoppage time to give Jaish a 4-3 victory. That will certainly give the Uruguayan tactician plenty to ponder before the third round of action.

Al Arabi has brought in no less than ten players to the squad over the summer transfer window. The stand out signing thus far has been right back Mohammed Jumma, the former Al Rayyan player lifted the QSL falcon shield last term and looks to have settled quickly. The Qatari international gives Al Arabi plenty of width on the right hand side, and has already made his presence felt notching with a long distance strike in the defeat to El Jaish.

At 22 years old professional Imoh Ezekiel will be looking to make an impact on his return to Al Arabi. The Nigerian international, which recently represented his country at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, has only played one game with the side this season but already looked dangerous. Blessed with plenty of pace and an eye for goal, Ezekiel will be hoping to fire The Dream Team up the QSL standings.

Veteran defender Boualem Khoukhi has been with the club for eight seasons now, and his experience will be vital if Al Arabi is to challenge for major honors this term. The Qatar international has looked steady in defense in the opening two games and the captain of the Dream Team will be looking for similar assured performances over the course of the season.

Gerardo Pelusso’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways when the QSL resumes after the international break. Al Arabi are set to take on a tricky away tie at Al Kharitiyat on Saturday the 15th of October at Al Khor stadium.
