Al Shahania head coach Jose Fernando has been awarded the QSL coach of the month award for September/October. The Portuguese tactician picked up the award on Tuesday evening at Al Shahania’s training ground.
The newly promoted side has made an impressive start to the QSL campaign registering eight points from five games, and currently sits in fifth place in the QSL standings. The award is all the more impressive considering that head coach Fathi Al Jabal left the side after two games, with long term assistant Fernando stepping in as a replacement.
Over September and October Shahania registered only one opening day defeat to Al Rayyan, since then the Oryxes have remained unbeaten in the QSL, picking up two wins and two draws. Eye catching results against fellow promoted side Muaither and Al Sailiya have been punctuated with two draws against Umm Salal and Al Gharafa.
Fernando’s side have created on average 9.8 chances per game and found the back of the net on six occasions in five QSL games. Central to Shahania’s success has been their miserly defense which has conceded on seven occasions in five games.
The Oryxes will be looking to continue their unbeaten streak when they take on Al Sadd in the opening game of round six of the QSL season.
