Al Gharafa attacker Weiss looking forward to face former club
Former Lekhwiya midfielder Vladimir Weiss is relishing the chance to face his former team mates in the second round of the QSL season. The Slovakian international, who now represents Al Gharafa, spoke with QSL online to get his thoughts on the match, which is set to take place on Saturday the 24th of September at Al Gharafa stadium.
Weiss spent two trophies laden seasons with the Red Knights and opened up the conversation suggesting that this will not just be a normal QSL match. “This will be the first time I have faced Lekhwiya since leaving. I enjoyed two nice seasons with the club. So the game will be special for me, I will be seeing my friends, but during the match I will be looking to get the win for Al Gharafa.”
Focusing on his former side, the twenty-six year old attacker feels that the Red Knights have a host of players who can make a difference on the day.
“Lekhwiya have been together as a group, playing the same system for a long time now. This will be a difficult test for Al Gharafa; they have players like Nam Tae Hee and Yusef Msakni who have been top, top players in the league. Whilst now the new striker Yusef El Arabi looks like he could be a good player, Gharafa will have to battle to get something from the match.”
Al Gharafa head into the tie on the back of an opening day 4-2 loss to Al Ahli, despite the defeat Weiss believes his side showed plenty of character. “We started the game against Ahli opening the scoring. Everything was going well, and it was frustrating to concede two quick goals as a team. I think that on the pitch we some quality and character to come back into the tie and where unluckily to concede the fourth goal on a breakaway in stoppage time.”
Weiss also talked up summer signing Kooky Han, the South Korean midfielder could be a difference maker for the Cheetahs going into the Lekhwiya match. “Han is a good player on the ball, who covers plenty of ground. He certainly gives Gharafa something in the centre of the park, he will be important for us over the season.”
Ending the interview the Gharafa attacker stressed that his side will be prepared for the game. “Playing Lekhwiya is tough for any side in the QSL, but after losing the first match against Al Ahli, Al Gharafa is hungry to get all three points. We have the players to pull off a shock and get the win.”
