Al Ahli can push for Qatar Cup places- According to Bahrain international Adnan
Al Ahli’s Bahraini defender Sayed Adnan believes his side can cause an upset against Al Rayyan in the round six QSL match of the week. The former Al Arabi and Al Khor defender spoke with QSL online to get his thoughts ahead of Ahli’s visit to the reigning QSL champions.
Opening up the conversation, Adnan admitted it’s going to be a real challenge to take on Al Rayyan. “We have a tough mission ahead of us especially against Al Rayyan who won the QSL title last year. Despite this, we are ready to fight and perhaps surprise Al Rayyan.”
Last time out Ahli fell to defeat to Al Khor 3-1 in what was the last game of head coach Luka Bonačić. Going into the game Adnan believes his teammates will have extra motivation to do well. “We didn’t play well against Al Khor and we need to make up points against Al Rayyan. We will have a new coach soon, and every player will be looking to play well to impress the new management.”
Focusing on Al Rayyan Adnan believes that his Al Ahli squad has the players to cause an upset. “I think from the results, that we are pretty even in the league. Of course, Al Rayyan has a quality side full of good players. However I believe we have the same quality you only have to look at how Firmin Mubele has started. He has the potential to win the game for us.”
“We now have to look forward to the future with this team and the new management. We were all responsible as a team with our mistakes in the past. I think that we have started well and need to push on in the coming games. A win before the international break would really boost the squad” explained Adnan when asked about Ahli’s previous performances.
Ending the conversation Adnan reaffirmed the aims of Al Ahli this season, stressing that he wants to make the fans proud of the side. “Our aim has always been the Qatar Cup places, and that has not changed now. I think that with a new coach we have a chance to build and improve and challenge for the top four places. For me personally, I want to make the fans enjoy our play and make them happy.”
