Al Sailiya captain targeting 9 points from final games of the season

Veteran Sailiya midfielder Mirghani Al Zain has assured that moral is high in the Peregrines camp following an impressive 3-2 win over Al Gharafa in round 23. Al Zain revealed his thoughts on Sailiya’s upturn in fortunes in an exclusive interview with QSL online.

Opening up the conversation the 38 year old midfielder was eager to stress that his side are not fully away from the relegation dog-fight. “We did well in the victory over Al Gharafa, However Sailiya is still in the danger zone and there is a chance that we could still be relegated, we must win all the coming games in order to avoid this.”

“The win over Al Gharafa was much needed now we have three important games to end the season against three teams in Muaither, Al Sadd and Al Wakrah who all have their own ambitions in the league” added Al Zain.

Al Zain continued: “We are anticipating a difficult game in round 24 against Muaither, who are fighting for survival; the match will be totally different from the first gamne that we won 1-0. We will enter this game with the same desire to get all three points.”

Reflecting on the season to date the Al Sailiya captain noted that his side made some needless mistakes against the lower placed sides in the league. “We often dropped points against sides below us in the standings, if we had remained consistent I believe Sailiya could have been challenging for a top four place. We stated the season badly and thankfully we overcame the tough stage. Our performance improved following the winter signings which had positive impact on the team” added Al Zain.

Answering a question about reducing the number of QSL teams to 12 Al Zain reflected: “We have participated before in the QSL with 12 teams, ensuring that the level will be better but the number of matches will be less.”

Ending the interview, Al Zain revealed his side’s ambitions for the remainder of the season. “In the league we are aiming for nine points to pull away from the relegation zone, in order to finish in the highest possible position for the Emir Cup. Then looking forward, we have to do well in the Emir cup, our aim is to get into the final.”
