QSL online caught up with Al Ahli’s captain Meshal Abdullah ahead of the QSL match of the week between Al Ahli and Al Arabi. We spoke with the Qatari international midfielder about his side’s chances in the upcoming match against Ahli’s local rivals.

What do you think of the coming match versus Al Arabi?
It will be very tough game for both sides. This match is huge for Al Ahli in the context of our season. If we win, we will push away from the relegation zone, which is important for this team.

Who will have the upper hand in the match?
It’s hard to call that. Both teams go into the game on good form, especially Arabi who defeated El Jaish last time out. However I think it will be a tight match, and Ahli certainly have the players to perform well in this game.

How does Al Ahli go into the derby match?
Al Arabi Vs Al Ahli matches are always special occasions. We are local rivals and the players always look out for this game. We go into the match after a big win against Umm Salal, that will serve to boost our confidence and look to get the three points that we need.

How do you rate Al Ahli’s season so far?
We have not been at our best in some games this year, and this is why we have been in the bottom half of the table for large parts of the season. I think that this has happened for two reasons; firstly we have lacked luck in key games. Secondly we have had big players for us injured, which hasn’t helped our situation.

Can Ahli get relegated this season?
No I don’t believe that we are at danger of relegation. Our win against Umm Salal helped us pull away. That said we cannot get complacent, we have four matches to play and we need to win all of them to finish in the highest possible position in the league.

As Captain of the side, how do you rate the professional players in the squad?
I think that it has been mixed this season with our professionals. They have been key for us at times this season, however on the other hand we have lacked some luck with them this season. Take striker Firmin Mubele he started well with us, however now he is out for the rest of the season. We hope he can come back next season stronger.

What is your evaluation of your time with Al Ahli?
I am lucky to have been at this club for so long. I feel at home in Al Ahli, thankfully I can offer something for my team at the moment and God willing, this will be the case for a few seasons yet.

You managed to score lots of goals lately; will you be able to score against Al Arabi?
I have scored a few goals this season, but this has been with the help of my team-mates who have pushed me on. In regards to Arabi, I am confident I can help my team with a few goals on Friday evening.
