Al Sailiya goalkeeper fully focused ahead of match with Al Rayyan

Al Sailiya stopper Gregory Gomis has insisted that his side must be at full concentration if they are to get a result against the reigning QSL champions Al Rayyan on Saturday evening.

The Peregrines have yet to register a single point in the QSL this term, however the Paris born keeper believes Al Sailiya have used the international break well. “The stoppage in the QSL has helped us improve. We have played two friendly matches and they have been positive, the coach (Sami Trabelsi) has improved the mood in the squad after the start in the league.”

Sami Trabelsi’s side head into the match with the QSL champions without influential winger Abdurahman Al-Harazi who headed to Al Rayyan on transfer deadline day. Despite the loss of the Qatar youth international, Gomis stressed that his side has the quality to push on this season; “Al Sailiya has a small squad, so Al Harazi leaving is a big blow as he is a good player. But the strength of Al Sailiya is our team unity and we will make up for this loss.”

One player who Gomis believes will be crucial on the pitch for The Peregrines will be defensive midfielder Raoul Loé, the Cameroonian has put in impressive performances for his side in the opening games of the QSL season. “Raoul is a key player in our squad; he gives our midfield plenty of strength and power, which we will need against Al Rayyan. He is also tactically disciplined and vocal like a second captain out on the pitch.”

“As a goalkeeper I will be looking at Rodrigo Tabata and Sebastian Soria from free kicks and corners. They are dangerous from these situations. However overall we will be focusing on our game and making sure Al Sailiya get it right on the pitch” noted Gomis when asked about what he will be looking for from the opposition.

Ending the conversation Gomis also spoke about Danish head coach Michael Laudrup who is set for his first game in charge of the Al Rayyan side. “Laudrup is a good coach; he showed that when he was with Lekhwiya and its great to have him back in the QSL. However, we don’t focus on particular coaches or players. For Sailiya we have to work on ourselves and you never know if we get it right we could cause an upset.”
