
Al Shammari looking to do the double over Al Rayyan
Al Gharafa midfielder Fahad Al Shammari believes that his side is fully prepared to defeat QSL champions Al Rayyan for the second time this season, when they face off against each other in the QSL match of the week of round twenty two on Friday evening. Al Gharafa defeated Al Rayyan 3-2 in the first leg of the season, and the veteran midfielder is looking for more of the same from his side.
The Cheetahs have struggled form in recent weeks, but returned back to winning ways last week with a narrow 1-0 win over Al Khor.Al Gharafa’s number seven revealed his excitement ahead of the match up in a exclusive interview with QSL online.
“It’s going to be a big game against the champions Al Rayyan, who have done well in the league and the AFC Champions League. However Al Gharafa is different this season and we know we are capable of getting to the top four” explained Fahad when asked of his thoughts on the Friday evening game.
The 34 year old midfielder talked up the quality of his side heading into the tie; “We have a huge motivation to do well this season. Everyone in the team and management are working hard to reach our goal this season, we are focusing on our own game and paying little attention on what Al Rayyan can do against us.”
“Our preparations are on track and all players are ready to fight for the shirt against Al Rayyan, we have have found our way in the league again and we need to continue on this path, three points will highlight our top four ambitions” added the veteran midfielder when asked about the spirit of the squad going into the game.
Finally, Shammari praised the work done by the club that has led to the upturn in the Cheetahs fortunes during the 2016/2017 season; “We have a good spirit and everyone in the club working together, the coach has succeeded in renewing the spirit of confidence and self-esteem within the team.”
