Al Wakrah Sports Club has officially signed Uruguayan head coach Mauricio on a two season deal.The club announced the details of the contract during the press conference which took place yesterday at the Waves’ headquarters, the Saoud Bin Abdurrahman stadium.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Club Vice Chairman-Salman Abdel Ghani, the Head of Football - Sheikh Nasser Bin Hassan Al Thani and Deputy Head of Football Abdullah Saqr.

During the press conference the new head coach expressed his joy and happiness about working in Qatar; he hoped that it would be a positive experience and that the club will start to thrive next season.

Mauricio “In order to achieve results, we must go one step at a time.” He added, “Teamwork will be central to whether we succeed. The teamwork I speak of is also important off the field, team members, the club management, officials, technical staff and players must all come together and hold the same vision.”

The Club Vice Chairman Salman Abdel Ghani wished the new head coach all the best and said: “We are keen to start working on some huge changes during the summer break. The new head coach will now give his opinion with regards to player selection and transfers.” 

From his side, Sheikh Nasser said, “We were keen to sign Mauricio because he was successful in his home country. He led his team from 14th position to second in the league. I hope that he will achieve the same with Al-Wakrah in the new season.”
