Al Shamal welcomed Al Khor to the Al Shamal stadium for the round 22 Qatar Stars League clash.

Al Shamal who previous to tonight’s match hadn’t won a single game managed to finally show that they have what it takes to play with the big boys.

The match got off to the perfect start for the home side when just 11 minutes in Moumouni Dagano scored the only goal of the game. Osama Mousa was the provider as the Burkina Faso former international scored from close range to give his side the advantage.

After that Al Khor threw everything but the kitchens sink at the home side but lacked the necessary quality to break down a stubborn Shamal defense. Al Khor dominated the possession stats (60%) but from that, they could only muster two genuine chances in the entire game.

The Knights had an astonishing 21 shots at goal with 9 on target but keeper Chihab Salh Eddine was the hero of the night for Shamal as he kept his side in it with a number of important saves.

In the second half Al Khor continued to pressure but it proved to be one of those nights when nothing would go right for the visitors.

In the 90th minute Al Khatim was sent off for Shamal and this caused a frantic and nail biting conclusion to a night that the home fans will surely remember, as it will be the last home game that the Musketeers will play this season.

Previous to this match Shamal had played 21 times and failed to win, they had also drawn 7 times, so today’s game was a great achievement and perhaps will be the game that ignites their campaign to try to avoid relegation.

Shamal are now on 10 points and still bottom of the league.
