Al Sadd produced a dominating performance to defeat Al Khor 5-1 today thanks to a brace from Brazilian striker, Luiz Guilherme Silva (Muriqui).

Sadd were coming from a 2-1 loss to Qatar SC, a result which had left Sadd head coach Hussein Ammota a frustrated figure due to some questionable decisions.

With the busy schedule of fixtures and the fact that Al Sadd were missing a few key players for this match many thought that this game would be a lot closer than it was. They were without the services of their main playmaker Khalfan Ibrahim, midfielder Hassan al-Haydoos and Ibrahim Majid.

However despite these absences, Sadd were up for the challenge and started the game brightly, looking to trouble the Khor defense at every possible opportunity. Yet the initial exchanges came to nothing and Sadd had to wait until the 42nd minute when their skipper Talal Ali Albloushi found the back of the net.

In the second half, Sadd shifted gears and were playing with much more aggression and purpose than in the first half. Yusef Ahmed was the first to score, just four minutes into the re- start. Then it was the turn of Muriqui to show his goal scoring prowess, when he registered with two goals – in the 52nd minute and then in the 68th minute, thereby killing off any chance of a comeback.

Al Khor reduced the deficit through Julio Cesar in the 80th minute but it could only be called a consolation goal. Sadd’s Mashaal Qassim who came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute completed the rout when he scored in the 90th minute.

Despite having only 49 per cent of the possession, it was a clinical performance from Sadd. Khor on the other hand will be left to rue their missed chances. They had 16 shots on goal and had five of them on target. Had they converted those chances it could have been a different story. Khor have now lost two matches in a row and will have to pull up their socks if they want to finish on a high.
