Al Sadd has slipped up further in their Qatar Stars League title challenge after they eked out a 3-3 draw against Al Ahli at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium tonight.

Sadd were coming from a defeat at the hands of their main rivals, Lekhwiya which had seen them concede the top spot to the defending champions. Head coach Hussein Ammouta had stressed that they couldn’t avoid any further slips up if they wanted QSL supremacy.

Things started according to plan for Sadd, when they opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Musab Keder Kamal. But Ahli are a team who play an attacking style too and they found the equalizer in the 31st minute through Iranian midfielder Mojtaba Jabari.

Alain Dioko, one of the best strikers in the QSL showed his class when he scored the first of his two goals in the 42nd minute to put the Brigadiers back into the lead.

But just when it looked like Ahli were getting the upper hand, Sadd’s new striker Brazilian Grafite scored in the dying minutes of the first half to restore parity (47’).

The second half saw the same open style of play with both teams looking for the goal. But despite there being multiple chances, neither team could find the back of the net.

Then in the 84th minute Dioko scored his second goal through a penalty and it looked like he had pulled off the win for his side. But then in the 95th minute, Sadd received a penalty and Khalfan Ibrahim stayed cool under pressure to convert it and to snatch a draw from the hands of defeat.

Sadd has 58 per cent of the possession and more importantly 15 shots on goal, three of which were on target. Amotta’s boys will be ruing their lack of finishing which ended up losing them two crucial points. Ahli stay in fifth place in the table, four points behind Qatar SC in fourth.

Sadd are now four points behind Lekhwiya and they will have to hope that the defending champions slip up, for them to have a chance in the title race. With just six games to go, Sadd are running out of games as they lose their momentum at the worst possible time!
