
Al Rayyan started the stronger side, and dominated possession however five minutes from the break Al Hilal’s Uruguayan midfielder Nicolás Milesi broke the deadlock to give the Saudi Arabian side the lead. Minutes into the second half Al Rayyan drew level when Sebastian Soria’s drilled effort crept in at the back post.
Michael Laudrup’s side were in the ascendancy and took the lead just two minutes later when captain Rodrigo Tabata’s dipping shot found the back of the net from distance. Al Hilal showed plenty of resilience and retook the lead with two goals in nine minutes from Syrian international Omar Kharbin and a second for Milesi.
Substitue Sergio Garcia leveled up the scores on the 82nd minute to set up a grandstand finish; however Omar Kharbin struck his second of the match two minutes later to settle the tie 4-3 in favor of Al Hilal.
