Summary
El Jaish’s hopes of being genuine title contenders took another knock tonight as they let victory slip from their grasp in a thrilling match that saw 5 goals in total and plenty of drama in the final minutes.

The opener went against the run of play but the industrious Brazilian Madson latched onto a defensive clearance and in a lightening counter attack he put his side in the lead. The second goal and equalizer was soon to follow on 24 minutes courtesy of a Methnani special.  The second half held more drama in store as El Jaish took the lead with a Romarinho smash.

Yet Al Khor persevered, their key player Ibrahim Awal came on late in the second half and added a killer instinct that was sorely missing up until then. The forward equalized for the Knights and that was the catalyst to get the team attacking again.

Then Julio Cesar turned the game on its head when he scored with his chest to secure all three points for the boys in blue.

Post-Match Report
Before the match kicked off Al Khor head coach Boloni insisted defense would be key to winning this game and the Romanian tactician stayed true to his world as he set up his side to defend.

El Jaish pressured early on with some searching balls down the middle.  One such through-ball forced Al Khor keeper Baba Djibril to make a rushed clearance that turned into the perfect pass for Brazilian playmaker Madson.  The Brazilian forward was just onside as the ball reached him; he narrowed in on goal and finished well for the game’s opener (9’).

El Jaish didn’t take long to equalize however as their pressure began to tell. A poor clearance from the Khor defense landed at the feet of Methnani who played a clever one-two with Magid Hassan before dispatching a classy finish (21’).

And that was it for a very one sided first half that saw Al Khor struggle to get any real possession.

The players came out for the second half and El Jaish kicked off.

Al Khor were seeing more possession in the second half, but once they managed to get into the final third, the boys in blue lacked the creative spark necessary to undo a tough and Jaish defense.

Al Khor main point of attack was through the diminutive forward Madson but he seemed to have run himself into the ground.

Then on the 64th minute new Jaish star signing Romarinho came to life on the edge of the box and unleashed a thunderous strike that struck the bar. The ball crossed over the line and then bounced back out but the referee signaled for the goal.

The game looked to be going El Jaish’s way but a great through ball from Helal Ibrahim for substitute Ibrahim Awal was perfectly weighted as the forward rounded the on-rushing keeper and slotted home calmly for the equalizer (75’).

On the 83rd minute Al Khor regained the lead when a hopeful clearance found Madson who broke down the left wing before crossing to the unmarked Julio Cesar who nonchalantly chested the ball into the back of the net. The fans went wild, as at no point in the match did Al Khor look likely to win.

Al Khor then experienced a period of intense pressure as the soldiers threw everything they had at them.

The referee blew for full time on a night that El Jaish looked certain to win. The Soldiers have been guilty of lapses in concentration when defending this season and although they dominated the possession they failed to close out the game.
