A brace from Marcos Antonio Miranda saw Al Khor pull off what could be termed a shock 4-2 win over Al Ahli today at the Al Khor stadium in their Qatar Stars League encounter.

It was after a long break that the QSL got underway again and all teams were keen to get a winning start. Before the break, Ahli had sustained two losses while Khor had a win and a loss. But Ahli were still in seventh place whilst Al Khor was languishing in 10th place with 17 points.

But the difference in points disappeared on the pitch as Al Khor side took full advantage of playing at home, which has been described as a tough away fixture by all the QSL teams.--
The breakthrough came for Al Khor came in the 27th minute when Miranda got the first of his goals to give his team the deserved lead. The first half ended with with the home side one up and up to that point the game gave no indication of the goal fest that was to follow.

It started with Julio Cesar doubling Khor’s advantage in just two minutes after the restart. Then in the 56th minute the diminutive Brazilian Madson scored the third goal for Khor as the home side looked in a commanding position.

The Brigadiers were in a state of shock by the score line but then their star striker Alain Dioko took it upon himself to reduce the deficit in the 69th minute. But just when it looked like a fight back was on, Ahli’s Pedro Miguel received a red card for his foul inside the box which also resulted in Khor getting a penalty. Miranda stepped up to convert from the spot and give his team a commanding 4-1 lead.

Al Ahli was able to reduce the margin of defeat with a goal in the 82nd minute through Mojtaba Jobari but the damage was already done.

Al Khor seemed to have handled the break better and their players looked sharper. The Knights have now climbed to ninth place in the rankings while Ahli are stay in seventh spot.
