Al Kharaityat and Al Khor played out a tight and competitive draw at Al Khor stadium.The first real chance of note came through Al Kharaityat’s Abdul Aziz Ansari who’s powerful shot blazed over the crossbar on the 22nd minute.
Ansari was at the heart of Kharaityat’s good play in the early stages of the match. Unfortunatly his dazzling run beating three Khor men, and the subsequent shot in the 37th minute lacked the composure to give his side the lead.
From the resulting corner Kharaityat took the lead from the head of Hassan Fattah. The Palestinian international was able to find some space in the box, and powerfully headed the ball to give the Thunders a deserved lead on the 38th minute.
Al Khor quickly found their way back into the match, through a moment of Brazilian magic from Julio Cesar. Khor’s top scorer linked up with fellow countryman Madson to score an outrageous back heel on the stroke of half-time for his side.
In the second half Khor came out with renewed vigor with Madison’s free kick 49th minute stinging the palms of Kharaityat keeper Khalifa Ndiaye. Madson was central to Khor’s dominance in the match, delivering a good performance on the right wing.
Kharaityat dangerous on the break, threatening from set pieces throughout the match. Star striker Hassan Fattah missed two golden opportunities in quick succession. First with his header off the post and the rebounded header he pushed off the bar on the 70th minute.
Khor where handed a great opportunity to win the tie in the73rd minute when Tunisian defender Madhi Khammassi was given a straight red for a dangerous tackle on Julio Cesar. Kharaityat’s luck went from bad to worse with Hassan Fattah substituted with an injury.
Khor dominated the ten men of Kharaityat in final stages of the match, and could of taken the lead if only Madsons shot hadn’t just crept wide in 93rd minute of the tie. Khor will gain plenty of positives from this tie, especially after being so badly beaten last time out against Al Sadd.
