Al Kharaitiyat are a team that is enjoying a commendable transformation under their new coach Amar Osim and that run continued tonight  when they defeated Al Sailiya 2-1 at the Saoud Abdulrahman Stadium.

The Thunders have Yahia Kebe to thank as he scored a last-gasp winner in the 87th minute to give his team a thrilling victory.

Kharaitiyat gained two positions with this victory which sees them now in ninth place and that is a real turn around for a team that was once staring relegation in the face.

The Thunders, known for their counter attacking style, had the lion’s share of the chances.  Kharaitiyat had 16 attempts on goal with six of them on target. Sailiya in comparison only had five shots at goal with just two of them on target.

Kharaitiyat were the ones that started brightly and got an early goal through Hasan Abdel‐Fattah in the 17th minute. 

However Sailiya were able to hit back just five minutes later through Bahraini international Fawzi Mubarak Ayiesh. After this neither team were able to find the back of the net and went into the break with the score tied at 1-1. 

The second half saw Kharaitiyat continue to look for opportunities while Sailiya were focused on cutting off the blue’s attacks.

Before the match, Kharaitiyat coach Osim had said that this would be a match between teams of similar abilities– with neither team boasting of any big stars and playing as collective units. 

Sailiya though, couldn’t bring any of that team work to the field and they were clearly second best to the organization and motivation shown by Kharaitiyat.

This loss means that Sailiya has now slipped below Kharaitiyat in the standings. While the Peregrines are relatively safe from relegation – with a nine-point gap between them and Al Wakrah in 13th place.
