Al Gharafa pulled off a colossal 7-0 win over Al Shamal today at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium. Gharafa’s Romanian striker Claudiu Keseru scored an incredible four goals in this one sided match.

Gharafa were coming off a 3-0 loss to El Jaish, before that defeat however they had won three matches in a row. They were eager to show that they were a team on the up since consolidating in the winter transfer window.

Shamal were languishing at the bottom of the table, having secured their first win in their previous match against Al Khor, the boys from the north were keen to prove that they were capable of more.

Gharafa’s nickname is the Cheetahs and they were certainly very deadly as they made light work of the visitors. They opened the scoring as early as the 7th minute through Cicero Santos.

Then before Shamal could find their feet, Gharafa scored just a minute later. This time it was Keseru who found the back of the net for the first of his goals.

Gharafa were mounting attack after attack but luckily for Shamal, they couldn’t finish off their attacks as the first half ended with Gharafa leading 2-0.

At half time Shamal would have believed that they could probably get back into this match but things went from bad to worse for the Musketeers.

In the second half Christian Bolanos opened the scoring in the second half with a 53rd minute strike. Then it was the turn of Adel Lami in the 61st minute to take Gharafa’s total to 4.

Then Romanian striker Keseru went on to score three more goals within a span of 14 minutes to wrap up a spectacular individual effort towards the end of the game. Keseru scored in the 72nd, 76th and 86th minute as single handedly dismantled the Shamal back line.

It was a completely dominant performance by Gharafa. They had 66 per cent of the possession as well as17 attempts on goal with 12 of them on target. Shamal were able to muster nine shots on goal but just four were on target and neither one of them resulted in any goals.

This day belonged to Keseru. This win sees Gharafa leapfrog Ahli to fifth in the Qatar Stars League standings.
