QSL side El Jaish breezed past local rivals Lekhwiya 4-0, to all but assure qualifications to the Quarter Finals of the AFC Champions League. Goals from Abderazzaq Hamdullah, Mohammed Methnani and a brace from Romarinho gave the solders a comfortable lead going into the second leg.

El Jaish took the lead on the 17th minute, the Lekhwiya defense failed to clear their lines and the ball eventually fell at the feet of Romarinho, whose initial shot rebounded back off the post, only to fall at the Brazilian’s feet once again and this time he made no mistake.

El Jaish continued to look the more dangerous of the two teams and deservedly doubled their lead a minute before halftime. Abderazzaq doubled his side’s lead with a fine individual goal. The Moroccan international picked up the ball in his own half, and a powerful individual run and composed shot gave Sabri Lamouchi’s side a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Nine minutes after the restart, El Jaish increased their advantage further when Methnani headed home from the edge of the six-yard box following Moein’s corner from the left.

Lekhwiya tried to find a way back into the tie, but Alain Dioko spurned his sides best opportunity with a powerful effort that just missed the top corner.

Romarinho completed the rout four minutes from time when he scored from close range as El Jaish hit on the counterattack, to all but assure a place in the AFC Champions League Quarter Finals. The sides will meet again in the second leg on Wednesday the 25th of May.
