QSL side Al Rayyan registered a 2-1 win against AGL side Al Wahda to mark their return to the AFC Champions League in some style. The Lions opened the scoring through a header from Uruguayan defender Gonzalo Viera on the 13 minute mark.

Al Wahda fought back and found an equalizer through Korean full-back Rim Chang-woo who bundled the ball into the back of the net from a corner, with ten minutes left to play in the first half.

The reigning QSL champions rallied in the second half, and after some sustained pressure found a winner through midfielder Victor Caceres on the hour mark. A well placed free-kick from Rodrigo Tabata eventually found the head of the Paraguayan international who planted the ball past Wahda keeper Rashed Ali.

The visitors pushed hard for an equalizer, but Al Rayyan defended well in the final fifteen minutes of the match and held on to secure all three points.
