Al Sailiya have had a poor start to their season and badly needed a win before the one month break. The last game on the first day of round 10 saw five goals in the first half.

The game lacked any tactical nous as both sides just tried to outscore the other in the first half at the Soud bin Abdelrahman.

The first goal of the night came from a set piece situation. The Peregrines won a corner and defender Ricardo Miguel Costa came in late at the far post with a powerful header that hurtled straight into the back of the net (4’). The defender was completely unmarked and had plenty of time to compose himself before heading the opener.

But within 3 minutes the Blue Waves were back on level terms when Moroccan starlet Mitwali crossed in a ball from the right and Argentine striker Sáez did what he does best, somehow scoring from the tightest of angels (7’).

Then a poor defensive lapse by Waheed Mohamed Tahiri let in Abdulrahman Al Harazi in the 13th minute. He intercepted the pass deep in Wakrah's midfield, he rounded two players before letting rip and striking by uprights as the ball crossed the line to make it 2-1.

Then Al Sailiya had a two goal cushion for the first time in the game when Fawzi Mubarak Ayiesh converted from the penalty spot in the 24th minute. He placed it into the bottom right corner, at the same time sending the keeper the wrong way.

Then just before the end of the first half Younis Hwasi scored a cheeky goal as he got past his marker down the right wing. As the rangy midfielder zeroed in on goal, he fooled everyone who thought that a cross was imminent. Hwasi though, had other ideas as he calmly went for goal, making it 3-2 as the teams went in for the break.

After the restart the Peregrines again went in front on the 51st minute, this time through Mohammed Salah with a sublime chip over the keeper from distance. The goal came from a Sailiya through-in (deep in their half), the ball was then sent forward with a pin-point through-ball for Mohamed Salah Elneel who composed himself before scoring his 4th of the season.

Al Wakrah still had some fight left in them as Hwasi was not ready to give up. Mitwali was again provider for the goal, the Moroccan fired in a corner but the clearance saw the ball come back straight to him, he dummied the cross and beat his man to get closer to Sailiya’s goal before sending in another cross but this time he made no mistake as Hwasi was there to tap in the 3rd of the night for the Waves.

The referee blew for full time in an eventful game that could have gone either way. The win for the boys in blue and black sees them slowly climb up the table and into 11th place on 8 points.

Al Wakrah however continue with the losing streak and despite new coach Zakri taking over, it seems that old daemons are yet to be conquered!
