Lekhwiya- Performance of Champions
Lekhwiya stretched their lead at the top of the Qatar Stars league to four points after a no nonsense win against Al Kharaitiyat on Saturday evening. Laudrup’s men delivered a measured performance, particularly in defense with Kharaitiyat only managing three shots (none of which were on target) for the entire match.

The Red Knights dominated possession, and had a commanding 11 shots in the match, with 5 on target. Surprisingly Lekhwiya only managed a solitary goal in the second half. With striker Sebastian Soria calmly finishing on 54 minutes.

The comfortable 1-0 victory over Kharaitiyat suggests that Lekhwiya are finding their form at the right time of the season. Especially in a week when they managed to grab a draw with a tough Al Nassr side in the AFC Champions league.  Could this week’s victory against Kharaitiyat be a title winning performance? Only time will tell.

Qatar Sports Club- Back in the race for 3rd

Qatar Sports Club had a big away win at El Jaish in round 20. A late Young-Cheol effort in the 78th minute insured that the Kings grabbed all three points against third placed El Jaish. The teams are now neck and neck on points with only goal difference separating them.

The side has been delivering consistent performances under the stewardship of coach Radhi Shenaishil, who has been in charge since round 3. With the Iraqi coach previously playing for Qatar Sports Club, he has galvanized the squad, and will be looking for a strong finish to the season.

Dioko just keeps scoring

Al Ahli’s Congolese striker Alain Dioko was amongst the goals again in round 20 grabbing a brace in his sides thrilling 3-3 draw with Al Sadd. Dioko has been on red hot goal scoring form this season, and is the league’s top scorer with 20 goals. He could be set to beat his personal record of 22 goals in the coming weeks.

It’s also interesting to note that his goals have come later on in games with 13 of his last 20 coming in the final half hour of matches. The D.R Congo international has scored 4 goals in the last three matches and will be looking to add to his tally when Al Ahli faces Al Kharaitiyat in round 21.

Al Shahania out of the relegation zone in dramatic fashion Al Shahania lifted themselves out of the relegation zone in dramatic fashion this weekend, for only the third time this season. With a last-gasp 4-3 victory over Umm Salal, Iraqi international Mehrdad Pouladi slotted away a controversial penalty to ensure the win.
After securing only their fifth win of the season, Shahania are looking to stay in the Qatar Stars League at the first time of asking. Having been promoted last season, the victory against Umm Salal could serve as a springboard for QSL survival.

Wakrah’s slump continues
Despite securing the services of former Kuwait national coach Goran Tufegdžić, Wakrah’s slump continued in round 20. The Waves looked bereft of ideas against Al Arabi, never really testing the home side that has also been on poor run of results.

Shahania’s impressive victory against Umm Salal only further added pressure to the situation with Wakrah sliding into the relegation zone, for the first time this season. Tufegdžić will be looking for a change of fortune when his side takes on league leaders Lekhwiya in round 21 but it could turn out to be a challenging ask for the Waves.
