The Wolves star Khalfan Ibrahim Khalfan has been ruled out of the Gulf Cup due to an injury suffered in the warm up to an international friendly with North Korea.

The Qatar Stars League forward was having a season to remember after breaking the all-time Sadd goal scoring record.  The 26 year old sustained a partial tear of his knee ligament and is expected to be out for 3 or 4 weeks.

Khalfan was named the Asian player of the year back in 2006, becoming the first Qatari to hold the accolade.

He originally started at Al Arabi playing in their youth teams before making the move across town to Al Sadd in 2004. With the Wolves, the playmaker has become a club legend and was part of a team that won the 2011 AFC Champions League.

This season Ibrahim has scored 5 goals.
