Al Wakrah face Muaither in Round 3 (Group A) of the 2023-2024 season Ooredoo Cup at the Grand Hamad Stadium of Al Arabi club on Sunday, October 15, 2023. The kick-off is at 6pm.

Umm Salal, Al Arabi, Al Ahli and Qatar SC are the other teams in Group A.

Umm Salal currently lead Group A with six points. Al Arabi are also on the same number of points, but The Orange Fortress are placed ahead on better goal difference (+8 as against Al Arabi’s +3).

Muaither and Al Wakrah are placed fifth and sixth respectively in the group. They both have yet to open their account, but Muaither occupy a better position in the table on better goal difference (-2 compared to Al Wakrah’s -7).

Al Ahli and Qatar SC are in third and fourth position respectively. Both teams are on three points, but Al Ahli are placed ahead on better goal difference (0 as against Qatar SC’s -2).

The match is a great opportunity for coaches, Jose Murcia of Muaither and fellow Spaniard Marquez Lopez of Al Wakrah, to score a win and bounce back into the tournament besides preparing their teams ahead of the league’s resumption.

Al Wakrah had lost 0-5 to Umm Salal and 0-2 to Al Arabi in Round 1 and 2 respectively, while Muaither lost to Al Arabi and Al Ahli by an identical 1-2 margin in Round 1 and 2 respectively.

Al Wakrah will try to gain confidence from their 3-0 win over Muaither in Week 1 of 2023-2024 season Expo Stars League.
