Al Wakrah coach Marquez Lopez spoke to the media ahead of their 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League Week 2 match against Al Rayyan.
“I want my players to show the highest degree of concentration during the match. Although the preparations were short, the matches are continuing and we have been keen over the past two days to prepare well for this clash.
“I hope the team will not be negatively affected by the recent loss against Al Arabi, as the team’s performance was good. But when you do not score from the chances that you had to score, you have to accept if the other team scores a goal and loses the match. This is football and I think we played well, but some mistakes proved costly. The team's performance was good and we have to continue like this.
“We lost to Al Rayyan four times in the league during the past two years, but we are determined to change this situation during the current season. In previous meetings, we were close to winning more than once, but success was not on our side. I know that Al Rayyan are a special team with good players and a good coach of course,” said Marquez.
Al Wakrah player Ousmane Coulibaly said, “We believe we have a very good team, so we will go to win this match against Al Rayyan.
“We played excellently against Al Arabi, but luck was not on our side in front of the goal.
“Our preparations for this season were very good and I think we trained well in the Turkey camp and are ready to play the rest of the competitions in the best possible way.”
