Al Gharafa coach Pedro Martins spoke to the media ahead of their 2025-2026 Doha Bank Stars League Week 17 match against Al Rayyan.
“With the numerous matches played over the past 40 days, training has focused primarily on recovery to prepare the players for upcoming games. We will strive to bounce back in the upcoming matches. I am confident the players can return stronger.
“I know about our players’ fighting spirit and their determination to secure points in every game. Therefore, I am certain we will return to our previous form. We must work on correcting these issues and fight to change the situation. There is no alternative but to work tirelessly.
“It is an important game against Al Rayyan, a team with high ambitions. They have been our direct rivals since the start of the season, and this is a crucial encounter. As I always say, every remaining match is like a final for us. Al Rayyan have recently changed their playing style and boast outstanding players with great individual abilities. They are currently one of the best teams in Qatar and are achieving good results. Our matches against them are usually evenly matched and intense,” said Martins.

Al Gharafa player Joselu said, “The team must approach the Al Rayyan match with a high level of focus and the best possible psychological state, despite the short preparation period. The good thing about football is that you always get a new opportunity after every match. Our goal is to secure the three points and we will fight until the end.
“Our performance against Al Shamal was not bad, but we lost and sometimes the result is harsh. In football, sometimes you play well and lose, and sometimes the opposite happens.
“The team needs the fans’ support until the end. What happened last season was that when everyone joined forces, we were able to win the Amir Cup. It is very important for the club.”
