Umm Salal beat Al Sadd 3-2 in Round 3, Group A of the 2022-2023 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Egla Stadium 4 on Saturday.
Sardor Rashidov (44th minute), Joao Teixiera (58th minute), and Ilyes Brimil (69th minute) scored for Umm Salal, while Hassan Ahmad (third minute) and Santi Cazorla (50th minute) did the scoring act for Al Sadd.
Al Wakrah, Al Ahli, Qatar SC and Al Sailiya are the other teams in Group A.
Group B consists of Al Duhail, Al Markhiya, Al Arabi, Al Shamal, Al Gharafa and Al Rayyan.
The win was the third successive one for Umm Salal, who are now Group A leaders with nine points.
Al Sadd, who had won their earlier two matches, conceded their first defeat. They have six points.
Al Sadd took the lead through Hassan early on, but Umm Salal came back strongly, with Uzbek Rashidov fetching the equalizer just before half-time.
Both Al Sadd and Umm Salal were locked 1-1 at half-time leading to a thrilling second session action.
Cazorla put Al Sadd ahead soon after the start of second half, but Umm Salal hit back with a goal from Teixeira.
At 2-2, the battle became intense between two strong sides. Both teams pushed hard and made moves, but it was Umm Salal’s Brimil who essayed the winner for his team.
