Al Sadd made a record-extending achievement by winning their 16th league title, the most by any team in Qatar.

Al Sadd clinched the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League title following their 8-2 victory over Al Ahli in Week 19. The Wolves thus took an unassailable lead over their nearest challengers Al Duhail. They retained the coveted league shield with an unbeaten record and a match in hand - the postponed game against Al Rayyan (Qatar Clasico).

The new achievement underlines Al Sadd’s high technical capability and their results confirm that. They are the only team with an unbeaten record so far this season. Gracia’s wards won 17 matches and drew one from 18 games, and have a postponed match against Al Rayyan still to play.

Al Sadd started the season under Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez, who left after Week 9 to take up the reins of FC Barcelona, and was replaced by his compatriot Javi Gracia.

There are many players and stars who excelled with Al Sadd in this season’s QNB Stars League. They all contributed greatly to their many victories and presented strong levels. On top of the list is Akram Afif, Asia’s best player in 2019. He has so far scored 12 goals this season in addition to giving assists and decisive passes to team-mates. All that confirm his high technical value as one of the most prominent players around.

Ghanaian striker Andre Ayew is second on the list of top scorers with 14 goals. He put up consistent performances in all matches he played in his first season in Qatar ever since he joined Al Sadd at the start of this season. He has added to the offensive strength of the team, which includes players of great calibre.

Algerian ace Baghdad Bounedjah, who has had many achievements with Al Sadd, continued his excellent performance by so far scoring 13 goals.

Captain Hassan Al Haydous is another star in terms of stability, strength and effectiveness. He has time and again proved to be a strong addition to Al Sadd’s offensive side.

Veteran star Santi Cazorla, notwithstanding his skillful play, rather played the role of the leader. Boualem Khoukhi is considered as one of the most prominent players in defence in the company of left-back Abdelkarim Hassan, who is characterized by his speed, dribbling, accuracy and strength of shots. The goalkeeper duo of Saad Al Dossari and Meshaal Barshim also deserve special credit.
