A dying-minute goal from Badr Benoun saw Qatar SC pull off a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Muaither in Week 10 of the 2023-2024 season Expo Stars League at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium of Qatar Sports Club on Saturday.

The see-saw thriller was turned on its head by Qatar SC’s Moroccan star as he pounced on a perfect free-kick from Bashar Resan to first make a header and then score with a kick after the ball was kept out by the goalkeeper.

The winner also undid all the hard work of Muaither, who led 2-1 at half-time.

Besides Benoun (90+8 minute), Yousef Mohammed (seventh minute) and Bruno Tabata (61st-minute penalty) were the goal getters for Qatar SC.

Jamal Hamed (36th minute) and Ayman Hassouni (43rd-minute penalty) scored for Muaither.

Muaither were down to 10 men in the 73rd minute after Abdoulaye Bakayoko received a second yellow card.

The much-needed win took Qatar SC’s points tally into double figures (11 from 10 games). Muaither remained on five points.

Muaither would surely be ruing their chances after they battled back into the lead after an early setback.

Qatar SC had made early inroads with a fine combination goal after moving from the ball from the right flank to the left and going deep into ‘D’ before finding Yousef Ali to essay the goal and which saw Muaither goalkeeper Ivanildo Rodrigues kick the ground in disgust.

Qatar SC had a chance to doubled their lead in the 18th minute, but Bruno Tabata’s left-footed drive went a little right, past the goal post.

Muaither then moved into launching some attacks and in the 27th minute, Benoun cut off a threat by making a smart tackle inside the box.

Muaither hit back with the equalizer, with Jamal Hamed producing a fine header to his left from a Denis Alibec assist.

Muaither soon launched another attack and Qatar SC’s Eisa Ahmed was found handling the ball in a VAR. The resulting penalty was scored by Hassouni for his side to go 2-1 up.

Muaither’s good work was, however, spoiled as Bakayoko brought down Qatar SC’s Ben Malango in the danger area to concede a penalty.

Tabata struck from the spot as Qatar SC equalized at 2-2.

This set up a fascinating contest as both sides battled hard to get ahead again. There were several close chances for both teams. Muaither’s Alibec had two close hits at the goal while for Qatar SC a Resan strike went parallel to the goal, he being near the goal-line to convert the kick.

Just when it appeared that the deadlock may not be broken, Resan produced the sterling free-kick which was perfectly judged by Benoun to score.
