Al Wakrah beat Al Ahli 2-0 in Round 4 (Group A) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Khor Stadium on Tuesday.
Omar Ali (11th minute) and Yassin Abdullah (76th minute) scored the goals as Al Wakrah stayed on top of the group standings with nine points (three victories and one defeat).
Al Ahli stayed on four points following their first loss.
The match started off strongly. Despite the initial attacks of Al Ahli, Al Wakrah succeeded in taking the lead early as Omar found the target past Al Ahli goalkeeper Yazan Naim with a long-range shot.
After the first half hour, Al Ahli almost equalised, but Aldokali Alsayed was thwarted by Al Wakrah goalkeeper Mohammed Ibrahim.
In the second half, Al Ahli intensified their offensive pressure and had opportunities, most notably that of Hassan Palang whose shot went wide of the target in the 63rd minute.
However, it was Al Wakrah who scored again as Yassin cut in through the left flank evading defenders before placing in the ball past the goalkeeper.
Al Rayyan, Umm Salal and Al Shamal are the other teams in Group A.
