Already-qualified Al Sadd suffered a 1-2 defeat to Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan in the eighth round of 2024-2025 season AFC Champions League Elite (West Zone) at the JAR Stadium in Tashkent on Monday.

Colombian Brayan Riascos put Pakhtakor ahead in the 18th minute before Hassan Al Haydous scored the equaliser for The Wolves from the spot in the 37th minute and then Riascos bagged his brace for Pakhtakor in the 57th minute.

With the result, Al Sadd’s points tally remained on 12 points, but the Qatari side have already secured qualification for the Round of 16, while Pakhtakor advanced to seven points.

Two red cards were issued during the match, with Al Sadd’s Adam Ounas and Pakhtakor player Sardar Sabrikhojaev getting the marching orders in the 66th minute.

Pakhtakor pressed hard from the opening whistle, while Al Sadd were forced to defend, leaving the playing space for the Uzbek team.

The 18th minute witnessed the opening goal for Pakhtakor, which came through Riascos.

In the 31st minute, Al Sadd made their first substitution, with Guilherme Torres leaving the field due to injury and Ahmed Sayyar coming on in his place. Then, Al Haydous managed to score the equaliser for Al Sadd in the 37th minute from a penalty kick.

In the second half, Pakhtakor pressed hard and threatened Al Sadd’s goal on more than one occasion. In the 57th minute, Riascos added the second goal for him and his team with a header.

Despite the late-minute rally from Al Sadd, the Uzbek side stood solid as they ran away with their 2-1 win.
