Al Gharafa got the better of Al Rayyan by a 4-3 margin in Round 1, Group B of the 2022-2023 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Wakrah Stadium on Tuesday.
Yacine Brahimi (eighth-minute penalty), Ishak Belfodil (57th-minute penalty), Ayoub Mohamed (65th minute) and Andri Syahputra (84th minute) found the target for Al Gharafa.
Tamim Mansour (third minute), Khaled Ali (16th minute) and Omar Yasani (90+4) scored for Al Rayyan.
Al Duhail, Al Markhiya, Al Arabi and Al Shamal are the other teams in Group B.
Group A has Al Sadd, Al Sailiya, Al Wakrah, Umm Salal, Al Ahli and Qatar SC.
Al Rayyan, playing mostly with their young players, presented a good performance in the first half and even led 2-1 at half-time.
However, Al Gharafa, who had their foreign professionals Yacine Brahimi, Mahdi Tahrat, Ishak Belfodil, Farid Wilayat and Islom Khujaev taking the field, pulled up their socks in the second half, where they struck three goals to emerge as the winners.
Al Rayyan’s woes thus continued. The Lions are the only team not to record a victory in the 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League after seven weeks of action. They suffered six defeats so far and are placed at the bottom of the league table with just a point that they earned from their drawn match with Umm salal.
Al Gharafa are placed fourth in the 2022-2023 QNB Stars League with 12 points.
