Al Sailiya beat bottom of the table Al Wakrah at the Al Arabi Stadium 3-1, with Al Sailiya bouncing back from two back to back losses. Al Wakrah, who have had a torrid season and who finish the season rock bottom, failed on a consolation win and they’ll head into the Qatar Gas League on the back of yet another defeat.
Al Sailiya took the lead after 23 minutes when Temurkhuja Abdukholikov found himself on the end of a perfectly weighted through ball and after one touch hit the ball on his left and drilled a low hard shot across the goal. Wakrah’s goalkeeper should have saved it but dived over the ball and it tricked into the back of the net.
Wakrah got one back on the 39th minute through Ahmed Fadel after a shocking piece of defending. After a long looping ball was punted from the half way line towards Al Sailiya’s 18-yard box, Al Sailiya’s last man tried to play a back pass and instead played it perfectly into the path of Fadel who skilfully took it around the goalkeeper to give himself an open net and an easy equaliser going into half time.
Al Sailiya came out in the second half looking the more determined team and pressured from the whistle. 63 minutes in Mohammed Muddather gave Al Sailiya a 2-1 lead. Al Sailiya continued to pressure deep into the game and guaranteed all three points and an 8th place finish in the league when Abdukholikov got his second of the evening to make it 3-1.
Al Sailiya will be hoping to improve on an up and down season next year while Al Wakrah will be hoping to bounce straight back up from the Qatar Gas League.
