
It is understood that Fernandez has signed a three year contract with Gharafa following the conclusion of his two year deal with Al Khor, which ended earlier in the month. Speaking for the first time as Al Gharafa boss, Fernandez revealed his joy at signing for the Cheetahs.
“Al Gharafa is one of the biggest sides in the QSL, and I know them well with my time with Al Khor, our aim is to get Gharafa to their rightful place in the standings.”
Whilst Fernandez also revealed that he will be giving youth a chance as coach of the Cheetahs; “I have been asked by the club president to give opportunities to younger players, and this will be a major priority for me.”
Fernandez, 62 is a vastly experienced coach having managed a number of clubs in France including Marseille, Nancy and Montpellier. Al Gharafa will be hoping the veteran tactician can better their fifth place finish in the QSL last season.
