Al Arabi Summer signing Luis Jiminez believes that fan power could push Al Arabi all the way to their first QSL title in over 18 years. The Chilean international spoke with QSL online in an exclusive interview at the QSL club media day, outlining his hopes in this his first ever season in the QSL.

The former Inter Milan player admitted that the status of the QSL was one of the major factors in joining Al Arabi. “I have heard good things about the league. I know that the QSL wants to improve, and always looking for good players in the QSL this is one of the reasons I wanted to join Al Arabi.”

Jimenez is no stranger to the gulf, having enjoyed two separate stints at Al Ahli and Al Nassr in the UAE. The midfielder is eager to continue his success in Qatar. “I had five years successful years in the UAE, I won many trophies there. I am moving to a new country and a new club.  My aim is continue winning trophies; I hope that we can do this with Al Arabi.”

Talk turned to preseason training under new head coach Gerardo Pelusso. “We have had a good and long preseason we have worked very hard. It is clear from the group that we have not come to make up the numbers.”

Arabi have been particularly busy in the transfer window this term, recruiting a host of players and despite the new faces, Jiminez believes Arabi have the potential to thrive this season. “We have to work hard this season, we have many new aggressive players with a strong mentality, and this will help us if we wish to win the title.”

Concluding his interview with QSL online, Jiminez stressed the importance of the Al Arabi fans this season, who are hungry for their side to grab the league title for the first time in 18 years. “I think that the fans are vital in pushing the team onto glory. It is clear that in this league, like last season the fans of Rayyan helped their side. That is why Al Arabi need fan support to help this team push on for the QSL title.”

Al Arabi opens up their league campaign in the first game of the season against Al Sailiya on Thursday the 16th of September.
