The Lions opened the scoring away in Abu Dhabi through Spanish striker Sergio Garcia in the 16th minute. However Al Wahda struck back on the 28th minute through Ahmed Al Akberi who leveled the scores.
At the stroke of half-time Al Wahda took the lead after a powerful Balasz Dzsudzsak’s strike came of Wahda striker Sebastian Tagliabue. In the second half Wahda scored a further three goals to register their first win in the AFC Champions League in emphatic style.
The result still leaves Al Rayyan in second place in group D with a tally of 7 points. The Lions are set to take on already qualified Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia at home in two weeks’ time, in what promises to be a crucial match for Michael Laudrup’s side.
