Qatar SC defeated Al Shamal 1-0 in Week 5 of the 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League at the Al Janoub Stadium on Monday.

Abdulrahman Al Jassim scored the only goal in the 42nd minute.

Qatar SC raised their tally to seven points with their second victory and Al Shamal stood on six points.

It was a great relief for Qatar SC, who had lost 0-3 to Al Wakrah in the previous round, where Al Shamal had lost 0-1 to table toppers Al Arabi.

At the same time, it was a disappointment for Al Shamal, who had registered victories against Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa.

Qatar SC started off strongly and the return of Spaniard Javi Martinez added to their strength, while Al Shamal did not show the same strong performance.

Qatar SC’s Jassim Al Jalabi missed the target twice inside 10 minutes.

Al Shamal launched their first dangerous attack after 26 minutes. Amjad Atwan penetrated into the penalty area and passed a cross, but Qatar SC’s Badr Banoun intervened in time to save his goal.

Then came the all-important goal, with Al Jassem finding the target after team-mate Anthony Okpotu stumbled.

Al Shamal pressed hard at the beginning of second half and got a golden opportunity to equalize from a cross, but Yacine Bammou sent his shot over the crossbar.

And in the 51st minute, Al Shamal goalkeeper Babacar Seck thwarted Matheus Isaias’ attempt.

Qatar SC continued to be more dangerous in terms of opportunities, with Iraqi Bashar Resan leading their charge.

On the other hand, Al Shamal’s attempts were not strong enough to really threaten the rival goal.
