Al Sadd suffered a heart-breaking loss to Vissel Kobe, losing 4-5 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in regulation time in the AFC Champions League Elite quarterfinal at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium in Jeddah on Thursday.

Al Sadd seemed headed home until Vissel Kobe equalized 3-3 in the dying seconds of stoppage time (90+3 minute), with Yoshinori Muto superbly connecting a Rikuto Hirose cross from the right of the six-yard box and which left Al Sadd goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham stunned.

In the shoot-out, Al Sadd’s Claudinho shot over the bar, while all others scored.

Earlier, Rafa Mujica (sixth minute and 61st minute) and Roberto Firmino (65th minute) had delivered the goals for Al Sadd, while Yuya Osako (24th minute) and Yosuke Ideguchi (74th minute) found the net for Vissel Kobe.

Al Sadd had moved into lead early in the game before making another double blow past the hour mark to hold sway with a 3-1 advantage until Vissel Kobe overturned the two-goal deficit.
