Khalfan was born on the 18th February 1988 in Doha, Qatar. A striker of pure class and guile, his career began as a youth player in Al-Arabi Sports Club before transferring on July 1st 2002 to Al Sadd to start a new journey of excellence and achievements. His talent emerged after joining Al Sadd’s first team in 2004. He was fielded for the first time and played a key part in qualifying for the second round of the AFC Champions League. He also contributed to Al-Sadd gaining titles in the Qatar Cup 2006 as well as in the AFC Champions League in 2011.

His first goal for Al-Sadd was in the 2004/2005 season during the match between Al-Sadd and Al-Shamal, which ended with victory for the Wolves (3-1). 

On that day, Khalfan scored the third goal and from that point onwards led a successful career, writing a new chapter in the history of the Wolves. 

This season the Qatari star cemented started his place in the Qatari football hall of fame, after surpassing Al Sadd’s previous all-time goal scorer, the Ecuadorian striker Carlos Tenorio. 

Khalfan has only scored one hat-trick in his career with Al-Sadd; it was during the match against Al-Sailiya during the 2012/2013 season in addition to scoring 12 goals. His 63 goals were scored in only 49 games, a rate any striker would be proud of.

The striker has many milestones and achievements for Qatari football, the first of which is the victory with the Junior National Team in AFC Football Festival held in Muscat on 2002. Then the runner-up medal of the juniors in the GCC Championship in 2003 and then the bronze medal in the AFC Juniors Championship in 2004. 

 In addition, qualifying to the FIFA Youth World Cup in Peru 2005.  

The Qatar National A team staff closely monitored their prodigious talent and very soon Khalfan found himself in his first official match on the 16th of August 2006 in the 2007 Asian Cup qualifiers where Khalfan scored two goals against Bangladesh. 

Since then the attacker has represented the Maroons in 90 games, 81 of which were official matches approved by FIFA, scoring 22 goals. Following his decisive goals, he then scored the winning goal against Australia in the FIFA World Cup 2010 Asian qualifiers.

The son of Ibrahim Khalfan (former leader of the Qatar National Team and Al-Arabi Sports Club and one of the most prominent stars of Qatar and the Gulf in the eighties as a midfielder), Khalfan has followed in his father’s footsteps.

Khalfan made his father proud when he received the award as the best player in Asia in 2006 at a ceremony hosted by the AFC in the city of Abu Dhabi. Khalfan became the first Qatari to win the best player in Asia Award after strong competition from Saudi player Mohammed Al-Shalhob and Kuwaiti player Bader Al Mutawa. 

He also became the youngest player to receive this award at the age of 19. Due to his talent and skills, many foreign coaches who have worked in Doha, nominated him to play as a professional player in the elite European clubs.

Khalfan, Al-Fannan (the Artist) as Al-Sadd fans like to call him, renewed his contract with Al-Sadd until 2017 to ensure a period of stability in a club.

After a successful career and experience gained in the stadiums of Qatar as well as in international matches, "Khalafalinho” is busy preparing for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.  However the striker injured his knee and he is now in a race against time to be fit and ready for the highlight in the Asian football calendar.
