Umm Salal welcomed the visitors Lekhwiya to the Suhaim bin Hamad stadium yesterday evening for the Qatar Stars League round 9 clash.

This match was an opportunity for Lekhwiya to maintain their position at the head of the table. Umm Salal who last week had a solid win against a strong Arabi side was full of confidence going into this fixture.

The match was decided by goals before and after half time.

New Lekhwiya star signing Chico Flores got the goal for the Red Knights. The goal came after winger Vladimir Weiss was fouled on the edge of the area. Korean forward Nam Tae-Hee supplied the subsequent delivery and the Spanish defender headed powerfully towards the near post for the first goal of the game (40’).

In the second half Umm Salal pushed forward in search of an equalizer but this left them exposed at the back, however they had little choice.

The game looked to be slipping away from Barzan’s Falcons but on loan signing Elias came up with the good once more salvaged a point for his team.

Umm Salal scored their goal from a period of good possession. Some great one touch passing in around the box as Elias passed to Aliadière who passed to Tuncay who then returned the ball to Elias. The rangy striker received the through-ball and smashed home the leveler with just minutes to go (87’).

The result means that Al Sadd moved back to the top of the table as Lekhwiya dropped points and Umm Salal stay in 8th place with 12 points.
