Impressive Rayyan worthy champions.

Al Rayyan continued their meteoric rise in the QSL all but sealing the falcon shield on Friday evening, defeating former champions Lekhwiya 5-0.  Jorge Fossati’s side shows no signs of stopping and is surely now favorites to sweep all domestic Qatari honors this season.

The Lions where relentless against a Lekhwiya side who looked poor at times defensively, this was  oppitimized by two late goals in stoppage time from Mohammed Alaaeldin and Spanish striker Sergio Garcia.

Al Rayyan where denied their title on Saturday evening, following El Jaish’s 1-0 victory over Al Wakrah, however Al Rayyan just need a point in Round 21 to confim their status as deserved QSL champions.

Kings on the rise.

Qatar SC has won for the third match in a row on Saturday evening, defeating basement side Meisameer 3-0. Head coach Sebastio Lazaroni has done a fantastic job in turning around the ailing side, which looked all but relegated at the turn of the year.

Central to the Kings returning to good form has been Argentine playmaker Emiliano Vecchio who has weiged in with his fair share of goals since signing in the winter transfer window. Qatar are now just one point away from safety, and face a vital relegation six pointer against eleventh placed Al Khor in round 21.

The match will see two experienced coaches in Lazaroni and Frenchman Jean Fernandez face off in which promises to be an interesting tactical encounter.

8 Goal Thriller!

The round 20 match between Umm Salal against Al Gharafa was billed as a battle for the top 4 places in the QSL. Many expected a tight and cagey match, especially as Umm Salal have tended to draw their tougher matches in the QSL this season.

Many people wouldn’t have expected the pulsating 4-4 draw that took place on Saturday evening at Qatar SC stadium. Umm Salal threw away a two goal lead, in a match which saw a stunning freekick from Vladimir Weiss (See below!) and a hat-trick for Salal’s winter signing Mounir El Hamdaoui.

Umm Salal will have to dust themselves off from this titanic match when they take on Lekhwiya in the QSL match of the week for round 21.

Sadd conciliate 4th spot.

Al Sadd overcame top 4 rivals Al Arabi on Sunday evening, in what was one of the most highly anticipated matches of round 20.

Two first-half goals from defenders Musab Khoder & Morteza Pouraliganji along with a breakaway second half strike from Qatari international captain Hassan Haydoos ensured that the Wolves grabbed all three points.

More importantly for Al Sadd they now have a four point lead over fifth placed Umm Salal. However Jesualdo Ferreira’s side can ill afford to be complacent when they face Al Gharafa in round 21 of the QSL.

Relegation battle heating up.

With the league title all but won, attention is turning to the bottom end of the QSL table. A resurgent Qatar SC, along with a drop in form from several teams means that anyone up until 9th place could be pulled into a relegation dog fight.

Bottom side Meisameer can confirm their relegation to the Qatar Gas League in round 21 if they fail to beat El Jaish on Sunday afternoon. This means that five teams are now separated by just three points. Meaning the remaining six rounds of action will certainly see some high drama as these sides battle it out to avoid the drop.
